Night Person Conversion (I Believe, I Believe)

I’m one of those “night people”. I do just fine with theatre rehearsal and performance schedules when I’m acting (being wired after an evening show and unwinding one way or another until one or two in the morning). Sometimes modeling requires you to get to a shoot or runway fitting in the wee hours, but this isn’t your regular daily schedule – except during fashion show season which lasts only four hectic weeks. And those weeks are so exciting that even “nighties” like me can plow through.

However, to get many things accomplished during the day, some of which require me to be awake by 7 a.m. at the latest, I’ve been going through something like nightie withdrawal. Once I made up my mind to “convert,” I had to force myself to be in bed by 11 p.m.  to 11:30 p.m. at the latest when I was nowhere near tired. I’d go through the agony of tossing and turning for a couple of hours.

At this point, it’s working. I fall asleep pretty quickly and wake up seven to eight hours later ready to roll. What helps is the 8 a.m. yoga class I so look forward to. However, there are the challenges: very often an evening business or social event starts at 8 or 9 in the evening, or I’m doing a play.

In either case, I typically don’t get home until after midnight, find myself still wired, and unable to get into bed until…well, you get the picture.  Then I have to drum up my resolve anew to “day it.”  But it’s happening. And hey, nothing’s perfect!
