Time to Turn Over Your Closet for Spring!
I’ve never been much of a clotheshorse. That said, I do love beautiful clothes and I enjoy dressing up and wearing pretty outfits when called for – like to an industry event or a cocktail party, or just a fun night out on the town. But I don’t have closets full of clothes as some of my modeling peers do. I am actually missing some winter necessities from my wardrobe that I never replaced – all due to the fact that I lived in LA for so long. However, I do have a nice collection of summer dresses and blouses, which I can now place in the front part of my closet, since spring is practically upon us.
I remember reading an interview with Will Ferrell where he said he felt sad for his clothes that are always in the back of his wardrobe and didn’t get worn very much. Besides how funny (and sweet) that statement is, it’s also true. We need to rotate our clothes around from season to season or we just might miss some great outfits that have been hidden in the back for far too long.
The changing of the seasons, particularly spring, is the perfect time to turn over your closet. Spring beckons us to clean out, clear out and start anew. In late March I always look forward to giving my closet an overhaul. I like to see what I will be wearing as the sun shines brighter and the days get longer.
I like to put on some music and place some flowers in my room (preferably gardenias, that smell really pretty) to get me in the mood to get started. I take out all my clothes, put them on my bed and organize which outfits are still wearable, which need to go, which need repair and what I might be missing and needs to be added to my wardrobe.
I then move all my winter clothes to the back of the closet, and place my summer clothes in the front in order of preference. Generally my summer wardrobe is brighter than my winter wardrobe, and it’s always fun to see these colorful outfits in the front. It makes me feel lighter too.
