Fake It Till You Make It
I gained a great amount of self-esteem as a model. I had been a shy girl who wasn’t that confident before modeling had entered my life. I had difficulties at home, parental stuff that we all deal with in one way or another. I knew what I wanted in life, but I wasn’t sure how to go out and get it or if in fact my dreams could be realized.
When modeling entered my life I quickly began to enjoy all the attention it brought me, and even though I didn’t feel fully confident inside, I was able to “fake it till I made it” in front of the camera and on the set. Looking back now I suppose it was fairly easy for me to do this since the fashion industry embraced me so completely, and it is always easier to fake it when you’re being lauded rather than not. But there were challenging times in my career as well that I had to learn to navigate through.
Self-respect is an important quality to have whether you’re a model or not. It’s a good idea to cultivate it in whatever way you can. I started to have more faith in myself as I continued to go after what I wanted no matter what the results were. I was determined to be the best that I could be in my profession, and by following through, no matter how hard it was at times; I gradually became more and more confident in my abilities and became less and less shy. It’s the follow through, not the result that I came to understand was the goal.
