World Stroke Day Events – Wrap Up

What a week it was! World Stroke Day was last Wednesday October 29th, and I was one busy spokesperson. I participated in events throughout NYC raising awareness about strokes for the American Stroke Association, a division of the American Heart Association (ASA/AHA).

My duties as spokesperson started off with a bang last Tuesday when I was joined by Dr. Brockington, director of the Neurology Department at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s Roosevelt, on the satellite media tour. What a marathon it was! We must have repeated our stories at least 50 times to all of the regional TV and Radio stations throughout the U.S. It was a similar experience to that of a press junket for a movie, long hours that start way before dawn and the necessity of repeating the same information over and over. My ear bud kept popping out which meant I wasn’t able to hear some of the questions during one interview. That is par for the course with on-camera work however, and you just roll with it and carry on.

Dr. Brockington and I enjoyed our interview with Kathie Lee and Hoda on The Today Show that aired live on World Stroke Day. Check it out here.

We had a four minute segment in which we managed to get across all of the important facts and concerns about recognizing the signs of a stroke. Phew! We definitely play off of each other quite play if I do say so myself 🙂

Our final appearance on World Stroke Day was at the #Take2forstroke event at Herald Square which also went very well.

Raising awareness and saving lives is what it’s all about. Please visit strokeassociation.org for more info.
