Juicing, Detoxing Post Holidays

The holidays are over, and now it’s time to get back on track with health.

Juicing is a great way to start the new year off right, giving you the perfect chance to “reset” your body after the holidays.

For most of us, this means making good choices about what we eat. What better way to get started than with a juicing detox to help give your body the boost it needs?

Post-holiday juicing can help to get rid of that bloated, overstuffed feeling that is all too common after the holidays. It’s a great way to hit the reset button, and get your new year off to a healthy start.

If you’re thinking about embarking on a juice cleanse, here are some tips to help you get started.

Ease Into It

It’s a good idea to ease yourself into the juicing detox, rather than diving straight in. This allows your body time to adjust to the changes. A few days before the detox, cut out all processed food, sugar, and alcohol. It’s also important to limit meat and caffeine. Start introducing more whole foods like fruits, vegetables, grains, and legumes, and drinking more water.

Choose Variety

Juicing cleanses and detoxing is a great way to flood your body with all of the important vitamins and minerals that you may be lacking. Most of us rarely eat the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables each day. With juicing, you can guarantee that you will be getting a range of healthy fruits and vegetables, along with all of the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that you need to keep healthy. Choose a variety of recipes, and experiment with new types of fruits, vegetables, and nutrient-dense leafy greens. Variety is key, as this will allow you to get the most health benefits out of the detox. Don’t rule out savory juice! Combine tomatoes, carrots, spinach, celery, and garlic for a healthy drink.

Be Smart

While juicing can be an excellent way to detox and reset, it’s important to remember that a juice detox shouldn’t last for too long. Using a juice detox as a fast way to lose weight, can sometimes cause more harm than good. Since juices are devoid of protein, and lack the fiber needed to slow down sugar absorption, a juice detox can leave you feeling hungry. The best way to use a juicing is as a way to flood your body with healthy nutrients, and to remember that juicing should be a temporary (1-5 days) way to detox, not a long-term solution for weight loss.

If you’re hesitant to dive into a juicing detox, an alternative that you could try is blending. Blending allows every part of the fruit and vegetable to make it into the drink, meaning that you’ll get all of the fiber, which will help to keep you full for longer.
